The Philadelphia 76ers had several dominant performances last NBA season, earning them a spot in the Playoffs. However, they were unable to dominate in the first-round series and lost to the New York Knicks.
The team is now preparing for the next NBA season, which begins in two months. During the off-season, Paul George signed a four-year max contract with the Sixers. They also re-signed Kyle Lowry and acquired Eric Gordon. Additionally, the 76ers are seriously considering moving the team to a surprising new city in a different state.
“They sent a letter to Harris Blitzer Sports Entertainment, the Sixers’ parent company, detailing potential backing for the project. The letter noted that the project may be eligible for up to $800 million in Aspire program tax credits and proposed the availability of loans of up to $500 million. It also recommended the transfer of property near Rutgers University-Camden and the Ben Franklin Bridge for the development of the arena and additional residential and commercial real estate.” 76ers spokesperson told ROI-NJ news.
Recent reports by ROI-NJ news revealed that the owner of the 76ers’ current home has announced new plans to revitalize the area. This comes as discussions about the team’s proposed new arena in New Jersey.
Governor Phil Murphy, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, and other Garden State officials have pledged their support for bringing the 76ers to Camden, New Jersey. Additionally, they proposed transferring land near Rutgers University-Camden and the Ben Franklin Bridge to accommodate the arena and other residential and commercial buildings.
Philadelphia 76ers News Leaves NBA Fans Heartbroken
According to the reports, New Jersey state representatives met with the 76ers’ management on Monday to propose a plan for building a new mixed-use complex, including a new arena, on state-owned property in Camden, New Jersey. They also allowed the club owners to receive up to $800 million in tax credits.
The news is devastating for Philadelphia basketball fans, who are expressing their disappointment in the comment section of the post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
One fan mentioned, “That would be insane if Phila is left without a basketball team.”
Meanwhile, another fan said, “New Jersey Sixers sounds horrible.”
Another fan said, “Can’t imagine Philadelphia without basketball.“
Another fan said, “Na, stay in Philadelphia. For historical reasons. This just doesn’t sit well with me.”
