Loose Women panellist Denise Welch has been forced to shut down the suggestion that the ITV show has become “all about her” as she’s accused of telling critics to “shut up.”

In a recent interview, the star, 66, addressed the backlash she has received from viewers. Known for being hard-hitting with her opinions, Denise has clashed with co-stars and guests. And she faced further criticism as fans of the show have felt that she tends to speak of herself too much, while on the ITV show. However, the panellist and actress said the “whole point” of the daytime discussion show is to talk about themselves and give their opinions on different topics.

Speaking on Caroline Hiron’s podcast, Glad We Had This Chat, Denise said: “You know you get Doris from Darlington on Twitter and they say, ‘Ugh it’s the Nadia [Sawalha] and Denise show, it’s not about you, you know! And it’s like, it is though Doris, that’s actually the whole point. It is an opinion and anecdotally-led show so it is actually about us, Doris. So shut the f*** up. It takes experience to be a good panellist.” She added that it “drives her mad” that she has to “self-edit” due to being part of a “very PC world.”

Most recently, Denise and her co-star Stacey Solomon locked horns over the discussion of remote working. And again, she clashed with Royal spokesperson Dickie Arbiter when the topic of the Royal Family was discussed. During Dickie’s appearance last month, Denise was left frustrated when he accused Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of simply walking out on the Royal Family. On hearing his opinion, Denise hit back saying: “Why would they not walk out? Why would they want to spend their life in a country that hated them?”

Denise believes that Meghan and Harry’s decision to leave Windsor and Frogmore Cottage behind was a logical move. Meghan faced a huge amount of criticism when she was first rumoured to be dating Prince Harry in 2016 and the couple have publicly spoken about the negative media they both received, personally and as a couple. The pair share two children together, Archie and Lilibet.

Before Dickie could respond, Coleen Nolan chimed in and said: “We don’t want you to come on here and have a debate really, we want to know how Charles is doing now, what’s the future for Charles. You know it’s not a debate.” But unwilling to let the matter lie, Denise added: “Don’t have a guest on and say… I can say what I like Coleen.” In a bid to calm the situation down, Dickie added: “You can, you can, fair enough.” At one point on Loose Women, she told Dickie and the panel: “I am just sick to death of the bashing that this woman gets (…) we continually berate this woman every day.”
